Love Struck
The Photography of Jon Rendell

San Francisco's Embarcadero is home to a giant bow and arrow.
The Cupid's Span sculpture was created by married artists Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen (deceased). The 60-foot sculpture was commissioned by GAP founders Donald and Doris F. Fisher and donated to the city.

Cupid's Span is made of fiberglass and steel and was installed in 2002. The artists stated that the piece was inspired by San Francisco's reputation as the home port of Eros, hence the stereotypical bow and arrow of Cupid. The sculpture can also be interpreted as looking like both a ship and a tightened version of a suspension bridge.
